Barry Crimmins and Robert Kelly to receive awards at Boston Comedy Festival

This year the Boston Comedy Festival is celebrating comedians whose talent was locally grown and nationally recognized.

This year Boston the Boston Comedy Festival is awarding Robert Kelly who grew up in Medford and cut his comedy teeth in Boston will be the recipient of the Comedian of the year award. Robert Has gone on to play Louie Cks brother in a sitcom, He played Denis Leary’s drummer in Sex drugs and Rock and Roll, Robert has been on Comedy Central and is a National touring comedian. Robert once was a roommate with Boston comedy giant Bill Burr who was a past recipient of BCF Comedian of the year.

Barry Crimmins will be the recipient of the Lifetime achievement award. Barry credits Boston as his comedy hometown and he should he helped bring the Boston Comedy scene into the modern age when he founded two of Boston’s most fabled clubs: The Ding Ho and Stitches. Such acts as Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kevin Meaney, Jimmy Tingle and many, many others cut their comedic teeth in the rooms Crimmins started and at shows he produced. Bobcat Goldthwait directed Barry in his courageous documentary about his personal battle with and eventually his battle to fight sexual predators online.

Last year Louie CK produced a Netflix Special with Barry called What ever threatens you. Barry has just returned from the Edinburgh comedy festival where he was given the Editors Award.
