Boston Comedy Festival Stand Up Competitions FAQ’s

Q. When are the submission deadlines?

  • The deadline for the Boston Comedy Festival Stand-Up Contest is July 1st 2012
  • The deadline for the Boston Comedy Festival’s California Showcase was May 18th 2012
  • The deadline for the Boston Comedy Festival’s New York Showcase is May 18th 2012

Q. Can I apply for the Boston Comedy Festival and both Showcases?

A. Yes

Q. Guidelines for submissions?

A. To complete your submission we require a unedited video of a 5 minutes set, headshot and bio. To enter go to here

Q. The video I want to use is longer then 5 min can I still send it?

A. If your video is longer than 5 minutes you can still submit it but due to the volume of submissions we only guarantee that we watch the FIRST 5 minutes.

Q. How much is the submissions fee?

  • The fee for the Boston Comedy Festival is $35
  • The Fee for the Boston Comedy Festival’s California Showcase Competition is $20
  • The fee for the Boston Comedy Festival’s New York Showcase Competition is $20

Q. I don’t like paypal can I mail you a dvd and a check?

A. We no longer accept dvds and checks

Q. How many comics get accepted to each Stand-Up Competition?

  • For the Boston Comedy Festival it’s 96
  • Boston Comedy Festival’s California Showcase Competition 60
  • Boston Comedy Festival’s New York Showcase Competition 60

Q. How much time will I do?

A. The Boston Comedy Festival: The Preliminary sets are 5 minutes.
Semi Final and Final Sets are 8 min
*Note there is a penalty if you go over your time.

Q.I didn’t get in. Can I still come and hang out?

A.YES! If you submitted a complete application you are more then welcome to come to the shows and after-parties

Q. What shows will I be able to get in to with my performer pass?

A.Your credentials get you in to all shows. However, ticket holders and Industry credentials get priority seating. On occassions when our shows are very popular and seats are filled Performer credentials will be ushered to a stand room only until we are at Fire Capacity. Television and audio are provided for anyone who is not able to safely it in to the performance area. Being a part of festival where we are packed is not the worst thing in world!

Q.Can I do the same material in each round?

A. Thats up to you.

Q. How is the order of comedians picked for each show?

A. We randomly draw numbers before the show. The number you draw is the order in which you will perform. This is part of the reason that we ask you arrive half an hour early.

Q. How will I learn if I am accepted to perform?

A. We will email you the date and time of your preliminary round.

New York Contest FAQ’s

Q. Where do I register when I arrive in NY?

A. The location and performance time for the Preliminary Round will be emailed to you. Please arrive 1/2 an Hour BEFORE show time and check in with the Boston Comedy Festival staff.

Q. What clubs are participating this year?

A. Stand- Up New York and Comic Strip Live

Q. How is the contest structured?

The first three nights of the contest are Preliminary rounds. There are 2 shows each night. You will be given your performance time for your Preliminary round when you are accepted.
The Fourth night is the Finals night where an over all Contest winner will be named

Q. Do I perform only one night or more than one night?

A. All accpeted participants will perform in the preliminary round. If you advance in your round you will perform in the next round.

Q. What are the prizes?

A. The top 3 winners gain a spot in the prestigious Boston Comedy Festival. The first place winner gains $5,000 in cash and prizes.
